William Chen
Principal Clarinet, Taipei Symphony Orchestra

“Once a teacher, always a father.” In Chinese tradition, one’s teacher becomes a mentor for life. Anthony Gogliotti was not only a perfectionist as a clarinet teacher and musician, but his enduring care throughout the evolving career of his students inspired us all and influenced our philosophy of teaching. We kept in close touch over the years, culminating in Mr. Gigliotti’s travelling to Taipei recording four concertos with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, including the Ponchielli: Il Convegno, Divertimento per Due Clarinetti with me, his old student.

The image that stays with me is his endless warm smile, which conveyed a sense of his vitality and fulfillment. We will miss him around the world.
