Mitchell Lurie
Clarinetist
Former professor at USC
The year was 1939, my first year at The Curtis Institute, and it was not a happy time. I was the one freshman that year and things were not helped by a rough and tumble group of colleagues in the clarinet department. Patience was the answer. The next year in came a teen-age Tony Gigliotti and everything changed. In addition to the flawless playing we all came to know, here was a perfect gentleman and a fine human being. Thank you, Tony, we all miss you.
